K-P urges institutions to maintain limits

Assembly passes resolution, urging freedom of expression

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly condemned the Babara tragedy and demanded that all constitutional institutions play their roles within limits and refrain from suppressing people's lives, democracy and the freedom of expression.

Pakistan People's Party MPA Ahmad Kundi presented a joint resolution on behalf of the government and the opposition members. "The Muslims of the subcontinent sacrificed their lives for the sake of God and country," the resolution asserted. It added that Muslims of the subcontinent, especially Pakhtuns, suffered immense hardships. He said that in terms of a historic context, the Babara tragedy remained at the very top.

The resolution said that the incident was highly tragic and most condemnable as people were deprived of their fundamental rights.

"Therefore, this House strongly demands that state institutions play their constitutional role within their limits and refrain from suppressing the lives and property of people. "Implement the relevant provisions of the Constitution in accordance with their spirit so that the country can prosper," read the resolution which was unanimously approved by the House.
