Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin and actress Dakota Johnson have officially ended their engagement after a seven-year relationship. The couple, who began dating in 2017, had been engaged for four years after Martin proposed in 2020 with an emerald ring. According to the Daily Mail, the decision to call off the engagement was mutual, with the pair reportedly "drifting apart" in recent times.

While the specific reasons behind the breakup remain unclear, a source told the outlet that Martin has "now accepted the relationship is over—and it's best to move on." This news comes shortly after Dakota Johnson was seen without her engagement ring while out for a walk in Malibu, California. Meanwhile, Chris Martin is currently thousands of miles away, continuing on the European leg of Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres world tour.

The couple had maintained a low-profile relationship throughout their years together, never walking the red carpet as a pair. Despite their private nature, Chris publicly expressed his affection for Dakota in 2021, dedicating the song "My Universe" to her during a Coldplay concert. Dakota has also spoken warmly about her relationship with Chris's children, Apple and Moses, whom he shares with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow. In a 2021 interview with Bustle, Dakota said, “I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart."

The couple's split marks the end of a relationship that began three years after Martin's divorce from Paltrow in 2014. Both Chris and Dakota have yet to publicly comment on the end of their engagement.
