LAHORE:

The Organised Crime Unit (OCU) claimed to have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of PTI founding member Dr Shahid Siddiqui.

One of the suspects Sheharyar, a close friend of Qayyum Shahid, the son implicated in orchestrating the murder, was reportedly involved in planning the crime. The other shooter has been identified as Sajjad.

Qayyum Shahid, who is already in police custody along with four others, allegedly plotted the murder due to personal grievances with his father.

Qayyum had reportedly been at odds with Dr Siddiqui over his choice of marriage and his father's refusal to buy him a Rs130-million car or increase his monthly allowance to Rs30 million.

On the day of the murder, Qayyum followed his father to a bank where Dr Siddiqui was withdrawing money before Friday prayers.

Originally, the plan was to kill him after the bank visit to stage the crime as a robbery. When this opportunity was missed, Qayyum tipped off the shooter about his father's movements after the prayers.

Despite the murder, Qayyum attended his father's funeral and publicly mourned, calling for justice.

Siddiqui had offered Friday prayers. Evidence, including mobile communication between Qasim and the shooter and CCTV footage showing Qasim conducting reconnaissance on his father, has been collected by the police. It was also revealed that Qasim had argued with his father over the purchase of a luxury car.
