Six plunge to their deaths in Swat
Six people lost their live when a vehicle, part of a wedding procession, plunged into a ravine in the Matta tehsil of Swat district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday.
Nine others were critically injured and have been rushed to the hospital. The fatal accident probably occurred due to speeding. Local residents and Rescue 1122 teams removed the injured from the stricken vehicle and transferred them to Matta Headquarters Hospital.
Local residents told The Express Tribune that in Chaperial Sarbanda area of Matta, Swat, a double-cabin pickup truck plunged into a deep ravine after losing control at a turn. As a result, six people, including children, died on the spot.
The victims have been identified as Mahbuba, wife of Muhammad Jan, Bacha Anwar, wife of Syed Karim Jan, Uzma, daughter of Haji Nawab, child Muneeba, daughter of Habibullah, Riyasata, daughter of Khan Syed, and. Farzana, wife of Sarzamin.
Another nine individuals were critically injured. According to the Rescue 1122, as soon as the Swat Control Room was notified, the medical team immediately arrived at the scene. They provided first aid to all the injured and transported them to THQ Hospital Matta, from where they were later shifted to Saidu Sharif Hospital.
Towards the end of 2023, three tourists were killed and 16 others critically injured after a tourist bus plunged into a deep gorge at Peshmal in the Kalam area of Swat.
At the time, Caretaker Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Justice (retd) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah grieved the loss of precious human lives.
The chief minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences, expressing deep grief over the tragic loss of life, urging patience for the families of the deceased and the bereaved.
