What are Saudi Arabia’s best summer destinations for Pakistanis?
Saudi Arabia, known for its varied landscapes—from lush green mountains to pristine beaches—offers a wealth of year-round destinations for travellers. This summer, the cloud-shrouded valleys of Taif and the highlands of the Aseer region, including Abha, Al Namas, and Rijal Almaa, are particularly inviting for those seeking cooler climates and unique experiences.
Taif: A Floral Retreat
Taif, a historic summer haven for Saudi families, continues to attract both locals and expatriates. The city boasts over 2,000 rose farms, where visitors can immerse themselves in the region’s famed rose cultivation. Key attractions in Taif include the historic Souq Okaz, the Shubra Palace Museum, and the renowned Al-Hada mountain. Visitors should also take time to sample treats from the local Strawberry Farm.
Abha: A Breath of Fresh Air
As the captivating capital of Aseer, Abha offers a refreshing escape with its cool breezes and pleasant climate. With temperatures rarely exceeding 30°C and consistent rainfall, Abha provides a serene atmosphere for travellers. Highlights include a visit to Al Basta District’s traditional market, a relaxing break at Liwan Farm, and a scenic stroll along the Fog Walkway, which offers stunning views of the Tihama mountains. A ride on the cable car to Jabal Souda, Saudi Arabia’s highest peak, is a must for panoramic vistas.
Rijal Almaa: A Village of Charm
Rijal Almaa, celebrated by UN Tourism as one of the world’s best tourist villages, is located 45 kilometres from Abha. Known for its gingerbread-style architecture and multi-storey mud brick houses, this village offers a glimpse into traditional Saudi life. Visitors can explore the historical Qasabat Al-Owus Tower, wander through lush green fields, and sample over 40 varieties of authentic Al-Ami honey at the Honey Cottage.
Al Namas: The City of Fog
Perched atop the Sarawat Mountains, Al Namas is just a two-hour drive from Abha. The city, nicknamed the “City of Fog,” is renowned for its verdant landscapes and moderate climate. It’s a haven for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts, offering activities such as mountain climbing and camping amidst picturesque mountains and waterfalls. Al Namas also features parks, palaces, and museums, all set against stunning mountain backdrops.
Visa and travel information
Saudi Arabia has recently streamlined its tourist visa requirements. Pakistani applicants can now submit a bank statement with a minimum balance of USD 750. The Tasheer offices across Pakistan provide a seamless visa application process, including guidance, biometric enrolment, status tracking, and passport delivery. Appointments can be made through the Tasheer website.
Additionally, Saudi Arabia has introduced a transit visa for travellers arriving via Saudia and Flynas, allowing up to 96 hours of exploration. Visa on arrival is also available for those with valid UK, US, or Schengen visas.
The country has also launched a one-year multiple entry visa for Pakistani travellers, designed for personal visits, such as attending weddings or visiting family.
This visa allows for multiple entries over a 12-month period and includes the option to perform Umrah, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s dedication to facilitating spiritual and cultural exchanges.
