Troye Sivan and Connor Franta confirm 2014 relationship: Here’s why we have Chappell Roan to thank
After years of speculation and rumors, it seems that the relationship between Sivan and Franta—referred to as Tronner by their fans—is indeed genuine.
In an appearance on the web series Obsessed with Brooke Averick, Franta discussed the current lesbian pop sensation, Chappell Roan.
He revealed that he had been aware of Roan, known for her hit "Red Wine Supernova," since 2014, having first seen her debut YouTube video.
“I found it on YouTube with my boyfriend at the time. We found the song, it had like no plays, but her voice was unbelievable, so we started tweeting about it, like: ‘This girl is incredible’,” he said. “We were like: she’s the next Adele.”
Interestingly, Sivan, who was rumored to have been involved with Franta about ten years ago, also discovered Roan early in her career.
In November 2014, Sivan posted on X/Twitter, “I’ve had a 16-year-old girl on repeat for two months,” sharing a link to Roan’s debut, unreleased song “Die Young.”
Shippers of the two stars have taken this as confirmation, and most importantly vindication, that Tronner was for real.
In a video response, viral TikTok star Orla Cordial commented: “Does anyone have a time machine? I have to go back in time and tell teenage me that Connor Franta just called Troye Sivan his ‘boyfriend at the time’, so that she knows she’s watching all those Tronner edits for a reason.”
Another fan commented: “Have never ever once doubted Tronnor in 10 years. It’s over for Troylers,” referring to those who thought Sivan was involved with YouTube star Tyler Oakley. “This is the best day of my life.”
Another person added: “I cannot believe Chappell Roan is the reason we now know Tronner was real. This is the biggest thing she’s done for the LGBTQ+ community.”
During their peak on YouTube, Franta and Sivan often hung out together, referenced each other, and collaborated on videos, which fueled rumors about their romantic involvement.
Fans think the couple split in 2016, and Sivan's 2018 emotional song “The Good Side” is believed to be about his former partner.
