'Foolproof security' plan devised for I-Day
Rawalpindi police Tuesday said they have finalised a security plan for Independence Day.
According to a spokesperson for the police, special arrangements to control wheelie and car skating have been put in place. Heavy contingents of personnel would be deployed on important highways, including Murree Road, making a booking mandatory for those who wish to celebrate Independence Day in Murree.
Murree Road will be barricaded at various places to crack down on young motorcyclists.
He said over 5,000 police personnel will perform security duties. Fireworks and aerial firing will also be banned.
Given the expected rush of tourists in Murree, additional police forces have reached Murree. More than 1,000 traffic police personnel will be deployed at major highways, interchanges and toll plazas. Barricades will be installed at various places on Jhelum Road, Rawal Road, Syedpur Road, Peshawar Road, and Bank Road to prevent young motorcyclists from engaging in wheelie and car skating.
All flyovers on Murree Road will be closed for entry of motorcycles. A traffic police post will be set up before the Committee Chowk Underpass so that motorcyclists are not allowed to go through it.
