KARACHI:

Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasised the need for unity for national development, urging everyone to set aside differences.

He noted that this year's Independence Day celebrations are especially enthusiastic, with the Sindh Government marking the 77th Independence Day with fervor, following Quaid-e-Azam's directives.

Memon expressed concern about the increasing spread of drugs in society, stressing that the federal government will support the Sindh government's efforts to combat drug abuse. He highlighted the expansion of rehabilitation centers, which currently accommodate 400 people, though 7,000 applications are pending. The Excise and Taxation Department has intensified efforts, with 178 cases registered and 200 drug peddlers detained since March. The Sindh Police have conducted 5,629 raids, recovering 5,096 kilograms of drugs, and dismantling five gangs, while also detaining 189 suspects involved in looting in Karachi. Memon called for continued, collective action to protect the younger generation from the menace of drugs.
