Unidentified gunmen opened fire on the vehicle of Dr Samreen Hussain, Vice-Chancellor of Dawood University of Engineering and Technology, in Orangi Town on Tuesday, Express News reported.

Dr Samreen, the wife of senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Dr Asim Hussain, remained unharmed in the attack, as did her staff.

The incident occurred in Orangi Town's Sector 11 during a ceremony at a girls' college marking Pakistan’s Independence Day. Dr Samreen was attending the event when the assailants fired two shots at her vehicle parked inside the college premises. The gunmen fled the scene immediately after the attack.

SSP West Hafeez Bugti confirmed the incident, stating that initial investigations indicate the attack was not related to street crime but rather something more significant. Witnesses reported that the assailants arrived in a white car, with one of them entering the college grounds and firing at the Vice-Chancellor's vehicle.

Dr Samreen later recounted that the college staff swiftly moved her to safety after the shots were fired.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has taken notice of the attack and demanded a detailed report from DIG West. He emphasised the need for a stronger, coordinated security plan for high-profile individuals and ordered the swift arrest of those responsible for the attack.
