Julianne Hough reflects on failed marriage with Brooks Laich: 'We lacked maturity'

In a conversation on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast, Julianne Hough candidly reflected on the breakdown of her marriage to Brooks Laich.

The "Dancing with the Stars" judge attributed their separation to a lack of maturity, acknowledging that both she and Laich have regrets about their relationship not working out. Hough described the dynamic between them, explaining that she was "expanding" while Laich was "contracting," leading to a disconnect they couldn't overcome. Despite the heartache, Hough expressed gratitude for the time she spent with Laich, praising his kind heart.   

Hough and Laich's journey began in 2013, culminating in a picturesque wedding in 2017. However, the couple announced their separation in 2020, ultimately finalizing their divorce in 2022. Hough revealed that quarantining apart during the pandemic played a role in their decision to part ways. While rumors of reconciliation surfaced briefly, Hough ultimately realized she valued her freedom and filed for divorce.   

Despite the challenges she's faced in her past relationships, Hough remains optimistic about the future. She recently shared with PEOPLE that she's currently single but open to finding a special someone. Hough emphasized that she's content with her life as it is and won't force a connection that doesn't feel natural. She's looking for something "really special" and is ready to embrace whatever comes her way.
