Miley Cyrus pokes fun at her wild post-Disney days at D23 expo

Miley Cyrus humorously apologized to Mickey Mouse for her rebellious era while accepting the Disney Legend honour.

During the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, Miley Cyrus playfully poked fun at her wild post-Disney Channel years as she was honored with the prestigious Disney Legend title.

The "Flowers" singer was visibly emotional as she became the youngest recipient of this recognition, bestowed upon individuals who have made an enduring impact on the Walt Disney Studios legacy.

In her acceptance speech, Cyrus reflected on her evolution from a beloved childhood TV star to a bold and unapologetic pop icon. She lightheartedly apologized for her rebellion against the wholesome Disney image she cultivated after her hit show, "Hannah Montana," concluded in 2011.

Cyrus reminisced about her early days with Disney, humorously remarking, "In 2005, Disney was on a mission to rebuild and reimagine the company. That’s why they hired Bob Iger, and me." She then quipped about a potential "malfunction" during her "Bangerz" era in 2013, where she famously shed her "Hannah Montana" image for a more provocative persona.

The singer's infamous 2013 MTV Video Music Awards performance with Robin Thicke, which sparked controversy and criticism, was also referenced. Cyrus playfully apologized to Mickey Mouse for that era, acknowledging its impact on her life and career.

Despite the initial backlash, Cyrus has since channeled her platform into advocacy for the LGBTQ community and unhoused people through her Happy Hippie Foundation.

Cyrus's speech demonstrated her ability to reflect on her past with humor and self-awareness while acknowledging the positive impact she has made since then. Her journey serves as a testament to her growth and resilience, further solidifying her status as a deserving Disney Legend.
