Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda has lauded the news of a court martial against former DG ISI Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, calling it a "step in the right direction" and signalling the beginning of a broader reckoning.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had earlier reported that court martial proceedings have been initiated against Gen Faiz. The former chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency was taken into military's custody with the proceeding being carried out under the Army Act, according to the military’s media wing.

A probe into complaints against the former spy chief was launched over the Top City case, following instructions from the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

“This is just the start; many more will fall,” Vawda stated in his remarks. He emphasised that the military’s message is clear: the current leadership is committed to transparency. “When the Top City case is revisited, more names will come to light,” he added.

Vawda also warned that those who supported the events of May 9 will face accountability, stressing that it won’t be limited to corruption. “Anyone who harms Pakistan will be held accountable,” he declared.

He further stated that it’s now time for everyone, including politicians protecting their illicit gains, to face justice. “The mighty ones will also fall,” he remarked.

Referring to the Faizabad sit-in case, Vawda noted that it’s a minor issue compared to the larger cases yet to emerge.

“I congratulate the army chief for achieving the impossible,” he said, adding that in the coming days, the founder of PTI, Imran Khan, will be humbled, and many others will follow suit, including those from PTI who, according to him, will be at the top of the list.
