British music icon Elton John has publicly congratulated American singer Chappell Roan on her recent success, as her debut studio album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess reached the top of the UK charts.
The announcement was made via Instagram on August 9, where Elton John praised Roan's achievement and acknowledged her rising influence in the music industry.
In his post, Elton John wrote:
"Congratulations to @chappellroan on her first UK Number 1 album. The meteoric rise of a midwestern princess. Brilliant pop music that brings the world together at a much needed time."
This marks a significant milestone for Chappell Roan, whose album was released in September 2023.
Although the album had a modest impact on the US charts, it has since gained considerable traction in the UK, surpassing notable artists such as Charli XCX, Taylor Swift, and Billie Eilish on the Official UK Chart. Roan's single Good Luck Babe currently holds the number two spot on the same chart.
The rising star's success has been linked to the recent release of limited-edition vinyl pressings of her album, which includes popular tracks like Red Wine Supernova.
In a February 17, 2024, interview with ABC News, Roan reflected on her journey in the music industry. She shared her thoughts on her current success, stating, "I feel very prepared. I have been doing this for a decade.
I have been through a major label deal already and dropped and then another major label deal so I think if this were to happen when I was hoping it would happen, when I was like 17, I wouldn't be able to enjoy it. So I'm really able to enjoy it because I feel ready."
Chappell Roan's rise to fame has not been without challenges. In the same interview, she revealed that in 2020, financial difficulties forced her to work as a barista in Missouri. Faced with the choice of giving music another shot or pursuing a degree in biology, she chose to persevere in her musical career.
Roan's upcoming UK and European tour, set to begin on August 31 in Berlin, Germany, will further solidify her presence in the international music scene. The tour will include performances in Paris, Amsterdam, the UK, and Ireland.
