Employee sacked after woman discovers 'hidden camera' in coffee shop washroom

Woman alleged that device had been secretly placed in a dustbin, with its camera facing the toilet seat

A disturbing incident occurred at a popular coffee chain, Third Wave Coffee, in India's Bengaluru, where a smartphone was discovered recording video in the washroom, hidden inside a dustbin.

According to Indian media, the incident took place on Saturday morning when a woman found the device, which had allegedly been recording for approximately two hours, with its camera positioned to face the toilet seat.

The smartphone, which was set to flight mode to avoid detection, belonged to an employee of the café. The device had been carefully concealed, with a hole cut in the dustbin bag to expose only the camera. The woman immediately alerted the café staff, who identified the phone as belonging to one of their employees.

The employee was promptly terminated, and the incident was reported to the police, who are now conducting an investigation.

The coffee chain has emphasized its commitment to customer safety and assured that they have initiated legal action against the employees involved. The company stated that they have a strict zero-tolerance policy and are cooperating fully with the authorities.

The eyewitness, who shared the incident on social media, expressed her shock and urged others to be vigilant when using washrooms, regardless of the establishment’s reputation.

She highlighted that such incidents could happen anywhere, not just in trial rooms or hotel rooms, and stressed the importance of being cautious in all public spaces.
