Britney Spears throws shade at Blake Lively over 2002 Versace dress
Britney Spears appeared to throw shade at Blake Lively for wearing her 2002 Versace dress at the “It Ends With Us” premiere in New York City on Tuesday.
In an Instagram video posted on Saturday, the 42-year-old “Toxic” singer showcased an “updated” version of the dress, which she claimed she prefers “way better.”
In the video, set to “Your Love” by the Outfield, Spears wore a new, sparkling, and colorful version of the iconic dress. This updated design features skinny shoulder straps and side cutouts.
She completed the outfit with nude pumps and minimal jewelry.
“I like it way better,” Spears said of the dress. “Shows my legs !!! 💅🏻👗🌷🌷.”
After being accused of shading Lively with her post, the singer later praised the “Gossip Girl” star in an updated caption.
“Updated version of my 2002 Versace dress 👗 !!! I’m no @blakelively but I like it,” she wrote instead, but still insisted that the new dress highlighted her legs.
Lively, 36, wore the dress previously donned by Spears at the premiere of her new movie on Tuesday, leading fans to speculate that Lively might be positioning herself as a potential candidate to play the “Gimme More” singer in a future biopic.
“Blake Lively is a true Britney Spears stan,” one fan wrote on X. “Her showing her love for Brit in such an honest & adoring way makes me think she’d be a good candidate for the biopic.”
However, several industry insiders have told us that Lively probably has no hidden agenda and is “just a fan” of the singer.
