Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a reward of Rs100 million for Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s javelin thrower, in recognition of his gold medal victory at Paris Olympics 2024.
In her message, Chief Minister Maryam praised Nadeem, saying, "Well done, Arshad." She highlighted that his gold medal win during Independence Day month was a gift to the nation, adding that the reward is the nation's way of expressing gratitude.
Chief Minister Maryam also announced the creation of a sports city named after Arshad Nadeem in Mian Channu. She noted that Nadeem overcame significant challenges to secure Pakistan's first gold medal in 40 years, while also setting a new Olympic record.
"Arshad Nadeem's dedication, hard work, and national spirit are evident in this achievement," she said.
She concluded by wishing continued success to all sons and daughters of Pakistan who raise the national flag high on the global stage.
Earlier, the Sindh government and Governor Kamran Tessori announced separate yet significant cash rewards for Arshad Nadeem, who made history by winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics in the men’s javelin throw event.
Governor Tessori pledged Rs1 million, while the Sindh government declared Rs50 million reward in recognition of Nadeem’s outstanding performance.
Governor Tessori congratulated Nadeem on his remarkable achievement, praising his record-setting throw of 92.97 meters, which broke the 118-year-old Olympic record.
He highlighted that Nadeem’s gold medal win has fulfilled Pakistan’s long-standing dream of Olympic gold, bringing immense pride and joy to the entire nation.
Murtaza Wahab, the Mayor of Karachi and spokesperson for the Sindh government, also lauded Nadeem’s achievement, commending him for elevating Pakistan’s name on the global stage. Wahab emphasized that Nadeem’s record-breaking performance in the javelin throw final is a moment of great pride for the country.
It is worth noting that Pakistan last stood on the Olympic podium on August 8, 1992, with a bronze medal, and the country’s last gold medal was won in hockey in 1984. Arshad Nadeem’s historic victory has now ended this long medal drought, bringing immense pride to the nation.
