Pakistanis erupted in celebration as Arshad Nadeem secured the nation’s first-ever individual Olympic gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Arshad Nadeem, a star javelin thrower, set a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 meters, surpassing the previous record held by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen.
This victory is particularly significant for Pakistan as it ended a 32-year Olympic medal drought.
The last time Pakistan stood on the Olympic podium was in 1992 when the national hockey team claimed a bronze medal in Barcelona.
Pakistan’s cricket fraternity was quick to react to the historic achievement.
In a video shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), prominent cricketers were seen celebrating Arshad’s victory, expressing their pride and joy on social media.
Babar Azam, the national cricket captain, tweeted, “After 30 long years, the gold is back in Pakistan! Huge congratulations to @arshadnadeem29 for this incredible achievement.”
Other cricketers, including Haris Rauf, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Naseem Shah, echoed similar sentiments, hailing Nadeem’s triumph as a source of inspiration for the entire nation.
Arshad’s gold-winning throw, achieved on his second attempt, marked the end of a 40-year gold medal drought for Pakistan in the Olympics, with the last gold won by the national hockey team in 1984 in Los Angeles.
