Govt okays Murree Expressway expansion
A project aimed at promoting tourism in Murree, famously known as the 'queen of hills,' has been launched, featuring the expansion of the Rawalpindi-Murree-Kashmir main highway.
The project is estimated to cost Rs1.2 billion.
This state-of-the-art road will span 17 kilometres, from Rawalpindi to Sunny Bank in Murree.
Tenders have been officially invited for the construction of this road through the e-tender system, with the submission deadline set for August 17.
The project will be executed under the annual development program (ADP) and will be completed in phases over six months, with construction starting simultaneously from both ends.
In an effort to enhance the scenic beauty and ecological value of the area, both sides of the road will feature tree plantations. These will include fruit-bearing plants, with a particular emphasis on pine trees, reflecting Murree's natural landscape.
Additionally, local fruit plants that represent the culture of the Pothohar region will be planted.
Recreational spots will be created along the route to offer resting places for travellers. For advertisement purposes, LED lights will be installed along both sides of the road, and street lights powered by solar panels will also be set up to ensure sustainable lighting.
