Drive launched to neuter stray dogs
The District Council of Jaranwala has initiated a daily campaign against stray dogs, resulting in the castration of approximately 100 dogs and the removal of about 850 dogs using strychnine poison.
Deputy Commissioner and Administrator of the District Council Abdullah Nayyir Sheikh shared details of the council's recent activities and financial achievements.
Sheikh reported that through strict financial discipline and an effective regulatory framework, the District Council's total savings reached an impressive Rs789.32 million during the financial year 2023-24. This figure includes Rs365.72 million saved from tenders.
The overall income for the financial year stood at Rs1,895.677 million, a significant increase from the Rs1,472.075 million recorded in the previous year, 2022-23.
In response to concerns about machinery shortages, Sheikh announced that the District Council had purchased five tractor trolleys, three front blade tractors and four front-end loader tractors at a cost of Rs54.8 million during the 2023-24 financial year.
Sheikh also detailed the District Council's efforts in sanitation, noting that approximately 9,000 tons of garbage were removed and disposed of from various entry and exit points of the city. On the issue of encroachments, Sheikh stated that temporary encroachments are being removed daily from major roads, including Makuana, Ada Satiana, Millet Road, Fish Farm Chowk, Adda Painsra, and Airport Chowk.
