Man kills infant daughter in Gujrat
A man killed his three-month-old daughter reportedly because he had wanted a son.
According to Dinga SHO Mujahid Abbas, the suspect identified as Ali Ahmed, a resident of Fateh Shah village in Mandi Bahauddin district, had been married to Maryam Ayesha for two years and was dissatisfied over not having a son.
His daughter Zainab was born three months ago and the birth led to frequent fights with his wife.
The suspect took his wife to the Head Khokhran Canal, where he forcibly took his daughter from her and threw her into the water.
Passers-by informed the police after hearing Maryam's cries for help and the suspect fled from the scene.
The police started a search for the infant girl in the canal with the help of rescue workers. However, they were unable to find the baby despite the passage of more than 24 hours.
A case was registered against the victim's father under section 302 and 201 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Sajjad Ahmed Pandey, a resident of the Khokhro village in Kharian tehsil.
After a search, the police took Ali Ahmed into custody. The suspect is stated to be the prayer leader in a village mosque and the victim was his only daughter.
