On August 8, BLACKPINK celebrates its eighth anniversary since debuting in summer 2016 as YG Entertainment's first girl group in seven years.

To mark this milestone, the group released "BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK] IN CINEMAS" on July 31.

This concert film showcases their finale performance from the "BORN PINK" world tour, where BLACKPINK performed in 34 countries across 66 concerts, drawing over 1.8 million fans—setting a record for the largest audience for a K-pop girl group’s tour.

BLACKPINK’s rise to fame began with their debut single album "SQUARE ONE" on August 8, 2016. The tracks "Boombayah" and "Whistle" reached first and second on Billboard's World Digital Songs chart, marking a historic debut.

Pop culture critic Kim Do-heon praised BLACKPINK for redefining global perceptions of K-pop, noting that they have achieved a status comparable to Western pop stars.

The group has achieved numerous records, including the fastest K-pop music video to surpass 100 million views on YouTube with "Pink Venom" and the most-followed music act on the platform.

BLACKPINK holds 12 Guinness World Records and was the first K-pop girl group to top both the UK's Official Charts and Billboard's album chart with "Born Pink."

Earlier this month, BLACKPINK reached 13 billion streams on Spotify, making them the world's most-streamed girl band of the previous year. Their most popular tracks have surpassed 4 billion streams in total.

Spotify's Park Jung-joo commented on BLACKPINK’s impressive growth and the "#8YearswithBLACKPINK" campaign.

The group also made history as the first Asian act to headline Coachella and the first K-pop artist at BST Hyde Park. Critic Kim highlighted BLACKPINK's global influence and brand identity.

As members pursue solo careers, Jennie, Rose, Lisa, and Jisoo have each made significant achievements. Jennie reached the U.S. iTunes top 10 with her solo debut "SOLO," while Rose and Lisa set records with their solo debuts in 2021.

Jisoo’s solo album "ME" became the first K-pop female solo album to sell over 1 million copies in its first week.

YG Entertainment’s Yang Hyun-suk has hinted at an exciting future for BLACKPINK, suggesting a comeback and world tour in 2025.
