Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon stated, “we’re here for the right reasons” before the US folk band performed a rendition of "Battle Cry Of Freedom" at a rally for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in Wisconsin.

The band played their popular songs "Towers," "666 ʇ," and "Flume" to an enthusiastic crowd before concluding with the patriotic tune "Battle Cry of Freedom," written by George Frederick Root to support unionism and abolitionism during the US Civil War.

Vernon shared with the audience that he wanted to end their set with “a nice old patriotic song that’s been rolling around my head these last months”.

“We’re here for the right reasons, and we all know what we’re here for, so we’re going to do our thing,” he told the crowd.

“Make this music and make way for the people that we need to hear from.”

The rally occurred just days after Ms. Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, announced Minnesota Governor Walz as her running mate for the 2024 election.

Together, they are set to challenge the Republican ticket of Donald Trump and Ohio Senator JD Vance.
