PTI's Aliya Hamza walks free
PTI leader Aliya Hamza was set free from the Gujranwala jail on Wednesday after the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered her release.
Earlier, LHC's Justice Ali Baqar Najafi had restrained the law enforcement agencies from arresting the PTI leader in any fresh case till August 29.
Justice Najafi was hearing a plea filed by Hamza Jameel, the husband of Aliya, seeking her protective bail to prevent further arrests in any case of which she was unaware.
"No agency will arrest Aliya Hamza without the permission of the Lahore High Court", Justice Najafi ordered.
Meanwhile, the court also sought a report from the attorney general for Pakistan by the next hearing date, detailing any FIRs registered against the PTI leader.
The petitioner had filed the plea in the LHC, naming the IGP Punjab and others as respondents, contending that his wife was being politically victimized due to vested interests. He stated in the petition that Aliya's basic rights were being violated through her implication in forged and frivolous cases, despite her having no connection to them.
