Punjab calls in army, Rangers for Chehlum

37 companies assigned to key districts

In a bid to ensure fool-proof security for Chehlum Imam Hussain (AS), the Punjab Home Department has requisitioned the services of Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers Punjab.

The deployment of these forces aims to assist local police in maintaining peace and order during the observance. According to a letter sent to the Federal Ministry of Interior, the law enforcement agencies will be actively involved in ensuring the peaceful conduct of gatherings.

The Punjab Home Department spokesperson announced that 37 companies of the army and Rangers have been requested for deployment across 15 districts in Punjab.

Specifically, 14 companies of the Pakistan Army and 23 companies of Pakistan Rangers Punjab are to be mobilised.

The districts set to receive these reinforcements include Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Gujrat, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sargodha, Khushab, Bhakkar, Multan, Jhang, DG Khan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, and Bahawalpur.

The deployment will occur from the 17th to the 27th of Safar, corresponding to the various security needs of each district during the Chehlum period. The spokesperson noted that this decision to call upon the army and Rangers was made in response to a request from the Punjab Police, highlighting the necessity for enhanced security measures to manage the large gatherings and processions.
