RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (DC) has imposed an immediate ban on the sale, purchase and supply of fireworks material including firecrackers under section 144 across the district. All SHOs have been issued orders to immediately crack down on violators and confiscate the fireworks.

Orders have been issued to strictly monitor the wholesale market of firecrackers in Nirankari Bazaar, Trunk Bazaar, Raja Bazaar and Ganjmundi Bazar.

As Independence Day approaches, children and youth have started using firecrackers, trumpets and Chinese firecracker matches, making the lives of citizens completely uncomfortable. From noon till late at night, children start harassing people by playing the instruments loudly in the streets.

The sound of a big trumpet is so terrifying that it wakes up sleeping children and elderly patients. It has become difficult to sleep till late at night. Youngsters leave these firecrackers and run away with a loud noise. These firecrackers are often thrown from rooftops and street corners on women walking by. Youngsters are also seen throwing live firecrackers in markets and bazaars as well.

Despite the ban on the sale of firecrackers by the administration, shopkeepers have started selling them in the streets. Stallholders are also openly selling different types of firecrackers to the children and youth of their acquittance.
