Two children drown in rainwater drains

RAWALPINDI:

Torrential rains Wednesday morning claimed two more lives in Rawalpindi.

According to Rescue 1122, the incidents occurred in two different areas where search and rescue operations have been initiated.

In the first incident, an eight-year-old child was swept away into a rain drain on Bostan Khan Road. CCTV footage of the area showed two children trapped in water, trying to escape the heavy water flow.

Both the children tried to cross the water, during which one child drowned in the drain while the other survived.

In another tragic incident, a five-year-old girl drowned in an open drain near the Adiala Road area.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson said search and rescue operations were initiated in both areas immediately. He further said the names of both the kids remained unknown.
