Timothée Chalamet’s Bob Dylan biopic 'A Complete Unknown' to premiere on Christmas Day
“A Complete Unknown,” the highly anticipated Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothée Chalamet, is set to premiere in theatres on December 25, 2024.
Directed by James Mangold, known for his work on “Walk the Line,” the film delves into Dylan’s formative years in the early 1960s, capturing his dramatic impact on the music scene.
The story begins with the enigmatic 19-year-old Dylan arriving in Greenwich Village, where he shakes the folk community with his bold decision to play an electric guitar in 1965.
The biopic’s release date will see it go up against Robert Eggers’ remake of “Nosferatu” and Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King,” making for a competitive holiday season at the box office.
The film’s first trailer, released in July, showcases Chalamet performing a stirring rendition of “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” and visiting iconic locations like Cafe Wha? and Hotel Chelsea.
Adapted from Elijah Wald’s 2015 book “Dylan Goes Electric,” the screenplay features contributions from Dylan himself, who provided detailed notes on the script.
Mangold, who has described his experience working with Dylan as “wonderfully charming,” has expressed deep appreciation for the annotated script he received.
The film boasts a star-studded cast including Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, Dan Fogler as Albert Grossman, and Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie.
Produced by Mangold, Chalamet, Fred Berger, Alex Heineman, Peter Jaysen, Bob Bookman, Alan Gasmer, and Jeff Rosen, “A Complete Unknown” is backed by Searchlight Pictures.
Fans and critics alike are eagerly awaiting Chalamet’s portrayal of Dylan, which promises to offer a fresh and intimate look at the legendary musician's early career.
