Sabrina Carpenter was ‘completely alone in wanting to release Espresso’
Sabrina Carpenter recently discussed the hurdles she faced in releasing her popular track "Espresso" during a cover story interview on August 6th.
The 25-year-old singer revealed that her decision to release the song was met with significant skepticism from higher-ups, despite support from her immediate team.
"I was completely alone in wanting to release ‘Espresso.’ Not so much from my immediate team. But when it came to the powers above," Carpenter shared in an interview with Variety.
Despite the challenges and doubts, Carpenter's perseverance paid off as "Espresso" became a major success. It reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 and secured number-one spots in the UK, Ireland, and Australia.
She noted, "There was a lot of questioning behind whether it made sense. But they trusted me in the end, and I was happy that I believed in myself at that moment."
Carpenter also revealed that the catchy chorus of "Espresso" was inspired by a visit to a crêperie in France. In a June interview with Rolling Stone, she attributed the song's success to her collaboration with writers Steph Jones and Amy Allen, and producer Julian Bunetta.
"That’s the only way those borderline idiotic-slash-funniest lyrics can happen. I’ve really honed in on the people that I love making music with," Carpenter explained.
In addition to her musical achievements, Carpenter announced a collaboration with Van Leeuwen to create espresso-flavored ice cream, which launched on June 28th. Her sixth studio album, "Short n’ Sweet," is scheduled for release on August 23rd.
