Singer Kehlani and her ex-partner Javaughn Young-White have both spoken out against recent media reports surrounding their custody battle over their 5-year-old daughter, Adeya. Kehlani, who uses they/them pronouns, released a statement denying claims that they put their child in harm's way or left her with dangerous individuals. They also denied any association with a cult, stating that the allegations are "incredibly hurtful, inaccurate, inappropriate, and simply untrue."

Young-White, who filed for full custody, had alleged in court documents that Kehlani's involvement in a cult was negatively impacting their daughter's upbringing. However, he later released a separate statement refuting claims made by TMZ that referred to the group as a "sex cult."
