Drake reveals the woman behind Hotline Bling and wanting Future on the track
On Tuesday, Drake fans (and critics) were given 100 gigabytes — that’s right, 100 GB — of data related to the artist to explore.
The rapper unexpectedly released the footage on a site called “100gigs.org,” featuring a video where he shared his desire to have Future on his biggest hit, “Hotline Bling.”
A series of videos from the track's creation show Drake smoking hookah in the studio as the song is produced, listening to the track, offering commentary, and enjoying the process.
In one of the clips, he remarks, “It’s melody but it’s a vibe.”
He continues, “When I was writing it, I wrote it as a Shy Glizzy song… That’s why I was asking if we should put Future on this shit.”
He repeats, “me and future on this shit…” before another person in the studio replies, “you gotta wait.”
In another "Hotline Bling" clip, Drake discusses the inspiration for the song's title and reveals that it originated from a booty call.
“We used to be in bed together. We just finished fucking and her phone would be blowing up, so I saved her name in my phone as ‘Hotline Bling,'” Drake recalled.
“That’s always been her name in my phone. Hotline Bling is a sick name, it should be my artist name.”
In the video, he joked, “if I was a dancehall artist, I would be Hotline Bling."
