Kamala Harris and Tim Walz kick off campaign tour, criticise Trump and Vance
Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, the Democratic presidential ticket, kicked off their campaign tour on Tuesday in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with a rally that drew over 10,000 people. The event marked the first time Harris and Walz campaigned together, and they used the opportunity to criticize their Republican opponents, Donald Trump and JD Vance.
Walz, a former teacher and football coach, described his upbringing in a small Nebraska town and his 24 years of service in the Army National Guard. He also went after Trump, saying that he "mocks our laws, sows chaos and division, and that's to say nothing of his record as president." Walz also criticized Trump's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, the economy, and crime.
Harris, speaking before Walz, praised his background and predicted that he would earn a new title in the November 5 election: vice president of the United States. She said that Walz is the kind of person who makes people feel like they belong and then inspires them to dream big.
The Harris campaign has raised over $20 million since announcing Walz as her running mate. Pennsylvania, the site of their first rally, is seen as a critical state in the election, with the Democrats and Republicans expected to be in a close race.
Trump and Vance were quick to criticize the new competition, with Trump calling them the "most Radical Left duo in American history." Vance knocked Walz for his handling of protests after George Floyd's death and said that Harris's choice of Walz shows that she will bend to the most radical elements of her party.
