IHC seeks report on Imran’s jail facilities

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered on Tuesday a report on the facilities provided to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, in accordance with international treaties and prison regulations.

The court has sought a report detailing the conditions of the past two weeks by August 22.

IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the petition regarding the provision of facilities to the incarcerated former prime minister.

The court directed the jail authorities to provide details on the current conditions and the facilities being provided.

The petitioner, Advocate Azhar Siddique, informed the court that the PTI founder has not been allowed to communicate with his sons via WhatsApp.

He also argued that Imran also complained about the lack of a refrigerator, which is causing food spoilage.

In response, CJ Farooq remarked, “Let’s wait for the reply and clarify things first. I am not going to install a refrigerator just like that.”

The court instructed the jail authorities to submit a report on the facilities available to the PTI founder over the past two weeks and provide a copy of the report to the petitioner.

The court has adjourned the case until August 22.
