JARANWALA:

A five-member delegation from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) visited Washington State University (WSU) to strengthen the collaboration between the institutions.

During the visit, it was agreed that WSU wheat varieties currently available at UAF will be commercialised.

In a meeting with WSU's International Office, UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar A Khan highlighted that the visit would enhance the collaboration between the two universities and provide valuable exposure to the delegation members.

Prof Khan proposed that the WSU Wheat Lines be commercialised, which WSU Professor Paul Whitney supported, promising full cooperation from his office.

The discussions also explored potential collaboration in animal sciences, arts and humanities. Dr Kulvinder Gill supported the proposal for the commercialisation of the wheat lines.

The UAF delegation toured various departments, research and development facilities, and experimental sites.

These included the Green Houses, Fast Breeding Facility, Turf Grass Experiment Farm, PNW Farmers Cooperatives, and associated infrastructure such as storage facilities, packing, and weigh bridges.

The delegation also observed trials of Wheat and Chickpea, WSU trials at Spillman Farm, and live demonstrations of combine harvesters at Ruffle Farm, which spans 20,000 acres.
