Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong defaces Oakland A logo in Toronto

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is making headlines for reasons beyond his music career.

In another image shared by Armstrong, the A’s logo was covered with a green “B” logo, likely representing the new independent Pioneer League team, the Oakland Ballers.

The word “Athletics” was also covered with green spray paint on the logo. 

Green Day, along with The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas, performed at Rogers Centre on Thursday as part of The Saviors Tour.

Armstrong was born in Oakland and grew up in the East Bay, where Green Day was founded. 

He had previously participated in the “reverse boycott” organized by A’s fan groups Last Dive Bar and Oakland 68’s in 2023.

Armstrong was also seen at a Ballers game during their inaugural season.

When asked about the video, Oakland Ballers co-founder Bryan Carmel did not specifically comment on Armstrong’s actions but provided a statement to the Bay Area News Group:

“I’ve been a fan of Billie Joe Armstrong since I was a kid. He’s so punk rock. We’ve loved having him at our games at Raimondi Park and seeing him rep our gear on social media. He’s an East Bay legend.”

Toronto Police informed the Bay Area News Group via email that they have no record of the incident.
