Security of judges to be strengthened

Recent terror attacks prompt formation of review committee

PESHAWAR:

In the wake of recent terrorist attacks on judges and other judicial officers, it has been decided to make a new security plan across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and a committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Peshawar High Court Registrar Akhtar Khan. He will contact all stakeholders to come up with new security plans.

During a meeting with the PHC Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim in the chair, it was decided that the security protocols will be formulated. The moot was also attended by Administration Registrar Mamreez Khan Khalil, Judicial Additional Registrar Hidayatullah, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, K-P IG Akhtar Hayat Gandapur, Home Additional Chief Secretary Abid Majeed, CCPO Peshawar, DIG CTD, Peshawar presidents of the high court Bar and district bar, along with other relevant authorities On this occasion, the police and provincial government officials briefed the meeting on the measures taken regarding the security of the judges and informed the participants about the recent incident in Tank.

It was also decided that the additional registrars and RPOs of the concerned circuit benches will formulate a strategy under the new procedure for the security issues faced by judges.

The participants were also informed about the elements involved in the incident. On this occasion, the PHC CJ instructed the authorities concerned that the security of the judges is their first priority. He believed judges played a pivotal role in providing justice to the people.

“If security problems arise for them, then they will not be able to perform their duties properly. Our first priority has to be to provide security to the judges so that they can dispense justice without any fear.”

The additional chief secretary briefed the meeting about the developments in the recent incident and brought the participants up to speed on the people involved in the incident. There best security is being provided to the judges, but further improvements will be made and their safety in every way.”

He revealed that regional police officers will be consolidated and it will be ensured that there are no gaps anywhere.

Police officials said that the Tank-DI Khan Road was currently a sensitive area where terrorist activities are taking place, but judges will be provided with the best vehicles. The meeting also decided that the security of judicial officers will be reviewed and a committee will be formed under the chairmanship of Peshawar High Court registrar.
