PDMA report shows 15 killed over 72 hours in rains

The monsoons have caused much devastation over the last 72 hours and inflicted massive financial losses in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the PDMA report, 15 people have died and 16 houses have been damaged in different areas of the province over the mentioned time period.

According to sources, 53 lives have been lost due to these rains since which began on July 1. As a result of the heavy downpours, many men, women and children lost their lives in various accidents.

According to the 72-hour report of PDMA, , 15 people have died and 20 people injured. According to the report, five men, four women and six children were among the dead, while five men, three women and 12 children are among the injured.

A total of 73 houses were damaged due to strong wind and rain, in which 54 houses were partially damaged and 19 houses were completely damaged.

Due to the heavy rains, locals lost loved ones and suffered heavy material losses in the K-P districts of lower and Upper Chitral Upper Malakand, Lower Dir, North and South Waziristan, Tank, Karak, Charsadda, Bajaur, Buner and Shangla.

In view of the heavy rains, flood situation and damages, the relief department has imposed an emergency in Upper Chitral till August 30. PDMA's Emergency Operation Centre is continuously monitoring the flow and level of water in the rivers through a flood warning system.

Relief materials were provided to the affected districts of Chitral Upper and Lower by PDMA.

Rain-wind/thunderstorm are expected (with isolated heavy falls) in Chitral, Upper & Lower Dir, Swat, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Torghar, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mohmand, Peshawar, Khyber, Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Kurram, Orakzai, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Tank, D.I. Khan, South and North Waziristan districts.

Heavy rainfall may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of the province, while landslides can disrupt roads at vulnerable points in the hilly areas of the province.

Heavy downpour/windstorm and lightning may affect daily routines, and it was warned that roofs and walls of weak structures could collapse, particularly in mud houses. Other vulnerable installtions include electric poles, billboards, and solar panels etc.

Meanwhile, farmers were advised to manage their activities keeping by takin g the weather forecast into consideration.

On Sunday alone, as many as 11 people, including five children, were killed when roofs of houses collapsed due to rains in Tank and Karak areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Due to the heavy rains, a flood alert was issued in the rivers passing through Peshawar, Nowshera and Charsadda. During the recent monsoon rains, the number of people killed in various incidents across the province soared to 53. The CM and governor of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have expressed their sorrow and grief over the loss of life and property.

The rains continued on Sunday in the upper areas and plains of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, while flooding persisted due to a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF)in Chitral. As per reports, there was a still a high level of flooding in the Chitral River.
