Halle Berry's request for co-parenting therapy with Olivier Martinez denied

Halle Berry's request to compel Olivier Martinez to attend co-parenting therapy was denied.

Halle Berry's request for a court order to compel her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez, to attend co-parenting therapy sessions was denied. According to documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, Berry accused Martinez of attempting to turn their 10-year-old son, Maceo, against her.

Berry, 57, filed the request after Martinez, 58, allegedly missed multiple meetings required by their divorce agreement. She claimed Martinez was avoiding the sessions "because he wants to have the summer off," which she argued was "thwarting the entire therapeutic process." Berry's lawyer stated that Martinez's "refusal" to attend the sessions was "certainly not good for Maceo."

Berry further alleged that Martinez's "continuous violations of court orders" were harming Maceo and interfering with his development. Since their October 2015 split, Berry claimed, "Olivier’s continued involvement of Maceo in our disputes" has caused their son to act out against her. She accused Martinez of placing Maceo "in the middle of Olivier’s anger toward me and in the middle of our conflict."

Martinez countered by accusing Berry of using her wealth and legal resources to "strong-arm" him. His attorney argued that there was no immediate risk of harm to Maceo, and therefore Berry's request did not qualify for an emergency order. The judge agreed, denying the request due to "lack of exigent circumstance."

The court had previously ordered two individual sessions and a minimum of six joint co-parenting sessions to be completed by June 14. Berry said Martinez attended one one-on-one session before ceasing further participation. Despite Martinez initially suggesting "intensive therapy," Berry claimed he has been critical of the process and failed to engage meaningfully.

Berry asserted that when Martinez finally responded to her inquiries, he stated he would begin the sessions in September. She argued, "By that time, he will find a new excuse to delay co-parenting therapy." Berry emphasized that she "had no choice" but to file her request in court to "get therapy back on track before the end of July."
