Julia Louis-Dreyfus hints at attending Democratic National Convention to support Kamala Harris

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the actress who played Vice President Selina Meyer in the HBO comedy series Veep, has dropped a hint that she will be attending the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this month to support Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for the White House.

In an interview with The Times of London, Louis-Dreyfus said that she "probably will be" attending the convention and plans to be "extra-involved" in Harris's campaign to beat Donald Trump to office. The show Veep, which finished its run in 2019, has seen a surge in popularity since Harris's run was announced, with creator Armando Iannucci saying that comparisons between Meyer and Harris are inevitable.

Louis-Dreyfus also spoke about the show's portrayal of female candidates, saying that it played into the reality that female candidates are often scrutinised more than their male peers. She cited an episode in which a character suggests that Meyer open a speech with "As a woman," only to be met with resistance from both men and women. Louis-Dreyfus said that the show used this theme for comedic effect, highlighting the challenges that female candidates face in politics.

With Louis-Dreyfus's endorsement, Harris may be gaining a powerful ally in her bid for the White House.
