Tributes paid to police martyrs on national day
The nation observed 'Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Police' on Sunday to honour the brave men and officers, express solidarity with their families and to pay homage to the services of the department for the protection of the people.
On the occasion, the political leadership of the country paid rich tribute to the martyred police officers and personnel for their unmatched bravery and sacrifices, and highlighted their vital role in the fight against terrorism.
"The entire nation is proud of its valiant police force for their sacrifices. The police personnel had laid down their lives while fighting on the frontline with terrorists and criminal elements," President Asif Zardari said in his message to mark the day.
"Jawans of police force have been sacrificing their lives, fighting with terrorists and anti-social elements in different parts of the country," Zardari said, adding that he saluted the Shuhada of the police force for their services and sacrifices.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the day reminded the nation of the valour and bravery displayed by the police force. He added that the police's sacrifices in line of duty and eradication of crimes were unprecedented.
"In the fight against terrorism, the police force has always played a leading role. Police personnel laid down their lives to secure and brighten the future of nation," the prime minister stated in his message.
He said that the entire nation was proud of its martyred police personnel and saluted them on their sacrifices. He assured that the government would take care of the bereaved families of Shaheed police officers in every possible way.
In a separate message, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq highlighted the "invaluable sacrifices" rendered by police officers and personnel in the fight against terrorism, saying: "The entire nation salutes the police martyrs on the day." He acknowledged the role of the courageous police officers and personnel, stating that the brave police force always acted as the vanguard in the fight against terrorism and the establishment of peace and order.
