KARACHI:

A man accused of a fatal shooting that claimed the lives of a court police officer and a toddler in Quaidabad has been arrested, police said on Sunday, adding that they have also recovered the murder weapon from his possession. The incident, which was allegedly motivated by honour, took place during a brawl.

The revelation was made by Malir SSP Kashif Abbasi and Korangi SSP Tauheedur Rehman during a joint press conference at the DIG East office.

On August 2, a shooting incident took place within the remits of Quaidabad police station in which Head Constable Muhammad Akram, son of Muhammad Hussain, and two-year-old Shahzaib, son of Shoaib were killed, the two police officers told media persons. A 40-year-old man named Sadiq was also injured in the attack. The suspect managed to flee the scene.

SSP Abbasi stated that a case was registered, and a special police team was formed to launch a manhunt for the suspect. Zafar Ali was arrested in a joint operation with Korangi police, and the weapon used in the crime was recovered. Zafar, a retired court police officer, allegedly targeted Akram and Sadiq due to personal grievances related to honour.

SSP Abbasi explained that Zafar fired at Sadiq while Sadiq was holding the toddler, resulting in the deaths of both. Zafar had suspected that Akram had illicit relations with his sister, which motivated the attack. Zafar also intended to kill his sister but fled due to the threat of arrest.
