JARANWALA:

Heavy monsoon rains continued to lash various parts of the city for the third consecutive day on Sunday, leading to flood-like conditions in several localities and disrupting traffic on major roads.

WASA meteorological office said the maximum rainfall was recorded at 142mm in Gulistan Colony, followed by 141mm in Ghulam Muhammad Abad, 115mm in Madina Town, 142mm in Dogar Basti, and 83mm in Allama Iqbal Colony.

Due to the heavy downpour, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) increased the number of emergency relief camps from 10 to 19 across the city and cancelled all vacations for technical and field staff.

A high alert was issued, and WASA operationalized field vehicles and supporting staff to clear the main thoroughfares, including Jhang Road, Western Canal Road, Clock Tower Intersection, and its affiliated eight bazaars.

Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Nayyir Sheikh personally visited Soosan Road along with WASA Managing Director Aamir Aziz and Chairman District Coordination Committee and Member Provincial Assembly Arif Mahmood Gill.
