German tourist mugged near Lahore's Allama Iqbal Airport
A German tourist was robbed near the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, prompting local authorities to launch a thorough investigation.
The incident occurred in the northern Cantt area when 27-year-old Berg Florian, who was traveling through Pakistan on a bicycle, was attacked by two unidentified assailants.
Florian, who was camping near the airport, was resting when the robbery took place around 1:30 AM.
The suspects approached his tent, demanded cash, and began searching through his belongings.
When Florian tried to escape, one of the attackers grabbed him by the throat and assaulted him, forcing him to surrender his valuables.
The robbers made off with a camera valued at $2,000, AirPods worth $3,000, an iPhone costing $500, Rs5,000 in cash, and a power bank. The total estimated value of the stolen items is approximately Rs500,000.
A First Information Report (FIR) was registered over the incident and officials said they were using CCTV footage and other evidence to track down the suspects.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations Muhammad Faisal Kamran has also taken notice of the incident, instructing the police to expedite their efforts to apprehend the culprits.
This incident has raised concerns about the safety of tourists in Lahore, a city known for its hospitality.
Berg Florian, who holds a 30-day visit visa to Pakistan expiring on September 11, expressed his distress over the incident.
