Sharia bench to take up cases from 5th

A five-member Shariat Appellate Bench will be led by CJ Qazi Faez Isa

ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court's Shariat Appellate Bench has issued the cause list for the cases under consideration. According to the cause list, a five-member Shariat Appellate Bench, led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJ) Qazi Faez Isa, will hear 20 cases from August 5 to August 8.

The Shariat Appellate Bench will also hear Shariat appeals that are 35 years old, including a 1989 appeal against the Federal Shariat Court's decision related to the electoral system in the country.

The Shariat Appellate Bench is a specialized bench within the Supreme Court that deals with appeals against decisions made by the Federal Shariat Court.

The Shariat Appellate Bench hears appeals on cases decided by the Federal Shariat Court, particularly those related to the interpretation and application of Islamic law.

The bench typically consists of judges from the Supreme Court and, in some cases, may include Islamic scholars (Ulema) who have expertise in Islamic jurisprudence.

It ensures that the laws and practices in Pakistan conform to Islamic principles. If a law is found to be inconsistent with Islamic injunctions, the bench can direct parliament to amend it.
