PTI denied permission for public gathering

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was denied permission to hold a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan on August 14, following a report from Lahore's deputy commissioner citing law and order concerns.

PTI had petitioned the Lahore High Court, asserting their democratic right to conduct political activities and assuring that no anti-state activities would occur during the event.

PTI sought approval to organise the gathering on Independence Day at the historic site. However, the Deputy Commissioner's report highlighted that public gatherings traditionally occur at Minar-e-Pakistan on August 14, posing potential security risks.

Consequently, permission was withheld to maintain public safety.

The report also noted that similar requests by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) were previously denied for the same reasons.

Following the submission of the Deputy Commissioner's report, Lahore High Court Justice Muzamil Akhtar Shabir disposed of the PTI's petition, aligning with the security concerns outlined in the report.
