Woman allegedly raped by ride-hailing service driver in Lahore

The incident reportedly occurred in the presence of the victim's friend

An online taxi driver in Lahore’s Sabzazar area has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman who had booked a ride through a mobile phone app.

The incident reportedly occurred in the presence of the victim's friend, sparking public outrage and raising concerns about passenger safety in ride-sharing services.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the victim claimed she booked a ride online to visit her friend’s home in the Karachi Block area.

Upon arrival, the driver requested water. As the woman went to fetch it, the driver allegedly entered the house and assaulted her.

The report further stated that the assault took place while the victim’s friend was present. The victim’s parents later arrived at the scene and confronted the driver.

In an effort to avoid public embarrassment, they reportedly allowed the driver to leave after a physical confrontation.

Lahore police have registered a case against the driver and are conducting raids to apprehend him.

“We are actively searching for the suspect and will ensure he is brought to justice,” a police spokesperson said.
