Waseem Khatri makes Pakistan proud at Scrabble World Cup in USA
Pakistani scrabble player Waseem Khatri achieved an impressive third-place finish at the World Cup Scrabble Championship held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA.
According to Tariq Pervez, Director of the Pakistan Scrabble Association (PSA), Waseem competed in the top division against several world champions, showcasing his exceptional strategy and wordplay skills.
Despite a challenging start in the four-day tournament, where he lost several games during the first two days, Waseem made a remarkable comeback. He won 10 of his last 11 games, securing the third position in a highly competitive field. Eta Karo from Nigeria claimed the championship title by winning 23 of his 31 games, while 2015 World Champion Wellington Jighere secured second place with a 20-10 record.
Waseem, who won 19 games overall, demonstrated resilience and skill in the face of tough competition. Notably, he was a finalist in the North American Championship earlier this month, making him the only player to finish in the top three in both major tournaments held in the USA.
Waseem's performance highlights his talent and establishes him as a formidable contender on the international Scrabble stage.
Waseem was also a finalist in the North American Championship last week and is the only player to have finished in the top three in both championships played in USA this month.
