The 2024 Olympics are in full swing, but the "real game" will start when Netflix releases season 2 of Squid Game on Thursday, Dec. 26.

On Wednesday, July 31, the streaming company announced the release date for the highly anticipated new season of the South Korean drama with a track-and-field-themed teaser.

"The real game begins. Squid Game Season 2 is coming December 26. The Final Season coming 2025," read posts shared by Netflix on its official X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram accounts

The posts featured a nearly minute-long video starting with a close-up of men and women sprinting on a crowded track.

Amid the sounds of people screaming and falling, the camera shifts to reveal the Front Man, who says, "It's been three years. Do you want to play a game?"

"Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 (Lee Jung-jae) remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport. Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway,"  the official synopsis states.

"But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organization proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it."

Season one of Squid Game is currently streaming on Netflix. The platform also features its spin-off, the real-life competition series, Squid Game: The Challenge.
