Manawan Hospital turned into cancer care facility

Local residents fear losing free medical services

The only major public sector hospital located in Manawan on GT Road, which provided free medical services, has transformed into the Mayo Cancer Care Hospital.

According to local residents, facilities provided earlier are no longer available for the people of the surrounding area. The people of Batapur, border region, Manawan, Wagah, Baghbanpura and Canal Road are now deprived of the primary health care facilities.

Emergency, OPD, gynaecology, orthopaedics, ultrasound, X-ray and other services were provided free of charge in the hospital.

The patients admitted to the wards were also provided food. Now the patients have to go to hospitals at a distance from Manawan to get these facilities.

The residents said they are advised to go to the Services Hospital about 18km away in case of emergency.

A resident said the secondary healthcare facilities should be continued in the cancer hospital. He said the private hospitals charge high fees for the same services.

An official of the hospital said the patients are referred to other hospitals after basic medical care in case of an emergency,
