Rangers to protect inter-provincial checkpoints

Minister says punishing terrorists essential for peace

LAHORE:

The Punjab Cabinet Committee on Peace and Order has approved the deployment of Rangers for the security of inter-provincial checkpoints.

In a meeting presided over by the Cabinet Committee Chairman Khawaja Salman Rafique, the law and order situation in the entire province was reviewed in detail. The officers concerned gave a briefing in this regard.

The committee approved the formation of joint investigation teams (JITs) for 14 cases under Section 19 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The appointment of six price control magistrates in various districts was also approved.

Provincial Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Minister Salman Rafique said on the occasion, "No effort will be spared to ensure peace and order in Punjab.

The state will not allow violence under any circumstances. Peace cannot be established in the society without punishing the terrorists."

The minister announced that the departments concerned have been directed to ensure regular follow-up of cases in courts.

Providing security to the people is the primary responsibility of the state, added Khawaja Salman Rafique.

The performance of price control magistrates will also be reviewed in the next meeting.

Special Secretary for Home Affairs Fazalur Rehman, Additional Secretary for Internal Security Usman Khalid, the DIG operations of Punjab, DIG Special Branch and officers of Rangers and other related institutions and departments participated in the meeting.
