RAWALPINDI:

Judge Dr Mumtaz Hanjra has indicted Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PIT) member of the assembly Sher Afzal Marwat in a case concerning illegal construction at a farmhouse. The judge has summoned the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) director general to present witnesses and evidence on September 26.

Last year, the RDA filed a case against Marwat for illegal constructions and encroachments, which were demolished within the limits of Naseerabad police station.

During the court hearing on Tuesday, Marwat claimed that the case was politically motivated and requested that evidence be sought from the RDA. The court has indicted Marwat, who pleaded not guilty, finding RDA’s charges to be prima facie unsubstantiated.

Marwat asserted that the allegations were false and that the actions were taken based on backdated notices. He maintained that the farmhouse was his private property and that no illegal constructions or encroachments were made.

Speaking to the media afterwards, Marwat reiterated his stance that the RDA had fabricated the case and had no evidence against him. His lawyer, Syed Yasir Hussain Shah Tirmizi, stated the court had taken serious notice of the lack of evidence and summoned the RDA director.
